Farmers’ Markets

Basalt Sunday Market

Local farmers markets, though generally modest in size, have developed a reputation for helping support an increasingly vibrant local-food culture. Growers from Paonia, Hotchkiss, Palisade and other nearby agricultural areas supply fresh produce (much of it organic) in season. Vendors also offer a variety of other goods, often including freshly prepared food. Aspen’s market is the largest, but downvalley venues make up for smaller selections with great quality, and a casual, welcoming atmosphere that often features live music and other activities. And just outside of Aspen, the Fruit Stand at Buttermilk offers a surprising array of in-season produce that definitely is not limited to fruit!
